There’s a question we get asked a fair bit, usually over a coffee.
“Why do you do so much community stuff?”
Fair question. We’re accountants. Our job is tax, numbers and helping business owners make good decisions. Nobody expects us to be hosting morning teas or turning up to a coffee van in the carpark.
Here’s the honest answer. We’ve been in Central Queensland for more than 30 years. Most of our clients found us through a friend, a family member or someone they trust. That means our clients aren’t just clients. They’re our neighbours. They’re the people we see at the shops in Rocky and on the foreshore at Yeppoon.
When your business is built on the community, giving back to it is part of the deal. We think of it as the same promise we make to every client, just pointed outwards. Show up. Be a friendly face. Help where you can.
It’s not one big gesture. It’s lots of small ones.
You might have seen us on socials with the Men’s Walk and Talk coffee van. It’s a local not-for-profit backing men’s mental health in Rockhampton. We bought the coffees, had a yarn, and the team got a morning out of the office. Great coffee, better cause.
It’s not about the size of the thing. Nobody in our office is running a charity. We just try to say yes when something good comes along. A coffee. A morning tea. A shared post for a client’s fundraiser. Small things add up, and they keep us connected to the people we work for.
Which brings us to the biggest yes of the year…
Bo-Maree is putting her hair on the line
On Monday 19 October we’re hosting a Pink Ribbon morning tea to raise money for breast cancer research. You’re invited. Come for a cuppa, a chat and a bit of a catch-up with the team.
Then there’s the main event.
Bo-Maree, is putting her hair up for grabs. She calls it Bald vs Short. If we hit her fundraising target, she shaves the lot. Fall short, and it’s a very short cut. Either way, a lot of hair is going. The only question is how much.
Her hair isn’t going to waste. Whether it’s cut short or shaved off, Bo-Maree is donating it to the Kids with Cancer Foundation’s Wigs for Kids program. So the money raised goes to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, and the hair goes to kids who’ve lost theirs through treatment.
Two causes. One haircut. She’s wanted to do this for a long time, and we couldn’t be prouder.
